Tourists from all over Bangladesh have flocked to Rangamati — also known as the city of lakes — to enjoy the government holidays to celebrate Durga Puja, Eid-e-Miladunnabi, and two days off this weekend.<\/p>\n
The hill and lake town is experiencing a festive atmosphere with thousands of people swamping tourist spots of the district. <\/p>\n
Businessmen say that tourists from different parts of the country are coming to visit Rangamati for the long holiday this week.<\/p>\n
According to this year’s public holiday list, this Wednesday was a general holiday for Durga Puja. The offices will open the following day on Thursday, but Friday and Saturday are weekends. The next day (Sunday) is Eid-e-Miladunnabi.<\/p>\n
Both government and private offices are set to resume work from Monday.<\/p>\n
Nusrat, a tourist who came to visit Rangamati from Cox’s Bazar, said: “Whenever we get government holidays, we try to visit different tourist spots of the country. This time I got a long vacation so I came to enjoy the natural beauty of Rangamati.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another tourist, Md Rashed, said: \u201cRangamati hanging bridge (Jhulonto Bridge) is very beautiful. Besides that, I also love Rajban Bihar Pagoda and Shuvolong Waterfalls a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Liza, another tourist who went to the tourist spot from Dhaka, said that Rangamati is one of the best examples of God’s beautiful creations. The clear waters of Kaptai lake really charmed me.\u201d<\/p>\n
At present, some 60-70% of government rest houses and residential hotels in the district are booked.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the manager of Rangamati\u2019s \u201cNaujan Ghat\u201d, Md. Ramzan Ali, said that Rangamati always witnesses a good number of tourists during public holidays including puja holidays. <\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the ghat, tourists take boats to visit Kaptai Lake and Shuvolong Waterfalls,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Srijan Bikash, manager of Rangamati Tourism Corporation, said that currently 80% of motel rooms are booked. <\/p>\n
He said that hundreds of tourists visited the hanging bridge on Friday, and authorities are hoping that the number of tourists will increase in the coming days.<\/p>\n
Rangamati is one of the crown jewels of the Chittagong Hill Tracts area.<\/p>\n
The pristine beauty of Kaptai Lake, and the mesmerizing Sajek Valley attract thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.<\/p>\n
After the signing of the CHT Peace Accord in 1997, tourism in Rangamati was considered and discussed as the most promising sector. Even with the Covid-19 pandemic, thousands of tourists visited this piece of beauty to find solace in the narrow valleys, light forests, and glistering waterfalls. <\/p>\n
