Sheikh Russel Day to be observed on Oct 18

Sheikh Russel Day 2022 will be celebrated simultaneously across the country and in Bangladesh embassies abroad as a Class ‘A’ national day for the second time on October 18.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak gave this information in a press conference at BCC Auditorium at ICT Tower in Agargaon on Wednesday.

On the occasion of the day, the activities of the day will begin by placing wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Russel at the Banani cemetery on October 18 at 06:00 in the morning on the initiative of the Department of Information and Communication Technology. At 06:30 in the morning, the institution will pay its respects by placing wreaths at Sheikh Russel’s portrait in the premises. 07:30 am at the initiative of ICT department. A rally will be held from in front of the Planning Commission to BICC premises with the participation of all.

At 10:00 am, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Sheikh Russel Day and present the Sheikh Russel Medal at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) Hall of Fame as the chief guest.

On the occasion of the day, various programs including discussion meetings will be held at all departments, districts and upazila levels of the country. Drawing, chess, national football tournament, cultural competition will be held under the initiative of Sheikh Russel National Children and Adolescent Council.

In the speech of the chief guest at the press conference, ICT State Minister said that Sheikh Russel was a hospitable, friendly and lively child. On Sheikh Russell Day, we want to convey the ideal of Bangabandhu, the serenity of Sheikh Russel, the story of his brave and fearless childhood to three and a half million children and teenagers all over Bangladesh. There has been a conspiracy to deprive our children and youth of the glorious history of that victory again and again.

Under the chair of Digital Security Agency Director General Khairul Amin, Bangla Academy president and poet Selina Hossain, Sheikh Russel Shishu-Kishor Parishod President KM Shahidullah, and A2I project director Dewan Muhammad Humayun spoke among others.
